Ravichandran Ashwin Seeks Clarification from CSK

Ravichandran Ashwin

CricDiary Desk: All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has reportedly sought a clarification from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) about his role in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Ashwin was acquired by CSK for a hefty ₹9.75 crore at the mega-auction last year.

Ashwin’s IPL 2025 campaign proved troublesome. He played in only nine games, the fewest since his IPL debut in 2009, and endured an expensive season. Ashwin—for the first time his economy rate exceeding 8.49—conceded 9.12 runs per over. Critics pointed out to his modest return of just seven wickets and 33 runs.

Sources revealed that Ashwin has directly asked the CSK management how they plan to deploy him next season. Ashwin, it has been learnt, is open to parting ways if he no longer fits their strategic plans

Ashwin’s decision coincides with a wider turmoil at CSK. The team ranked last in the IPL 2025 league table. They missed the playoffs for the first time ever. It was an emotionally draining season for Ashwin who later admitted that he felt like “sitting in a corner and crying.”

Players are auctioned and released at the mega-auction held every three years. A mini-auction, however, is held every year usually between November and February.
