CricDiary: Bangladesh selectors have dropped Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mohammad Naim from the squad for the 2025 Asia Cup. Both players were part of the team that won the recent T20I series against Pakistan 2-1. Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan and all-rounder Saif Hassan, meanwhile, were recalled.

The 16-member squad announced today will also feature in the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands starting 30 August. Miraz would have missed that series anyway for personal reasons. Miraz, who was recently appointed the Bangladesh one-day international (ODI) captain, had rejoined the T20I team after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) series defeat but failed to make an impact. He now finds himself on the standby list alongside Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam, and Hasan Mahmud.

Naim, a strong domestic T20 season notwithstanding, couldn’t convert that form internationally. He managed to scores 32 not out, 3 and 10 against Pakistan. His struggles continued with Bangladesh A in Australia.

Nurul, last seen in T20Is during the 2022 World Cup, revived his career with an impressive 2024-25 domestic season He scored 513 runs at a strike rate of 132.90 across the Bangladeh Premier League (BPL), National Cricket League (NCL) and Global Super League. The 31-year-old also captained Rangpur Riders to the inaugural Global Super League (GSL) title in 2024.
