Hanuma Vihari to Play for Tripura

Hanuma Vihari

CricDiary: India batter Hanuma Vihari is all set to play for Tripura in the 2025–26 domestic season. Vihari has joined Tripura as one of their three designated professional players after getting a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Andhra Cricket Association.

Speaking to the media, Vihari said, the move stems from his ambition to compete across all formats. His opportunities were limited in Andhra Pradesh’s current setup. Andhra’s emphasis on younger talent in T20 fixtures compelled him to skip the Vijay Hazare Trophy and consider fresh options.

Ahead of the 2024-25 season, the 31-year-old cricketer was in talks to move to Madhya Pradesh (for a second year in a row). He was, however, talked out of it by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary Nara Lokesh.

While Vihari has not formally assumed the captaincy, he is expected to play a pivotal role in leading the squad, offering his seniority and experience to help strengthen the team’s performance. His contract is only for the 2025-26 season as of now. It is extendable by mutual consent.

Vihari last played in a Test for India in 2022. He says his priority now is to make an impact domestically, scoring consistently, guiding his new team, and simply enjoying the game.
