David Gower to Auction Personal Cricket Memorabilia

CricDiary Desk: Former England cricket captain David Gower has decided to auction off his cricket memorabilia. Gower played 117 Tests and 114 one-day internationals (ODIs) in a career spanning 14 years. He’s often considered one of the most stylish southpaws of the game ever.

Among the standout items that Gower has put up for auction is a bat from the legendary 1981 ‘Botham’s Ashes’ series, signed by several greats of that era. Also listed is a Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and England tour blazer from the 1970s and a Baggy Green cap previously owned by several Australian cricketers. All these items are a part of Gower’s personal memorabilia collection that he has decided to sell.

“All these pieces have been sitting in my attic for years,” Gower told the media. “It’s part of a decluttering process and an opportunity to pass them on to fans who may genuinely appreciate them. Better to do it now while there are still people who remember me!”

Gower, now a well-known cricket broadcaster, admitted that it’s not easy to let go certain items. “The tour blazers, especially those early ones with MCC colours, are close to my heart. They’re not just clothes. They represent special moments and England’s cricketing heritage.”

Sports memorabilia sales are handled by specialist dealers. Gower’s collection, however, stands out for being offered directly by the man who lived the moments.

“I’ve also got a John McEnroe Dunlop racquet and a signed Stanley Matthews print tucked away somewhere,” he added. “They’re not part of the sale, but if someone’s interested, I’m open to offers!”
