No Threat to India versus Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Clash, Says ECB

India versus Pakistan

CricDiary: The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has assured that the India versus Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025 in on track, regardless of the recent geopolitical tensions between the two neighbours following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. The match is scheduled for 14 September. The tournament will be held in a T20 format.

The high-voltage encounter will mark the first meeting between the arch rivals since the terror attack. Both teams are placed in the same group, and depending on the results, may also face off again in the Super Four stage or the final.

Concerns over the fixture surfaced after India pulled out of two matches against Pakistan during the recently concluded World Championship of Legends (WCL) in England. The WCL is a privately organised event. The India Champions team opted out of both the group stage and semi-final games against their Pakistani counterparts.

However, ECB chief operating officer (COO) Subhan Ahmed dismissed comparisons between the Asia Cup and WCL, stating that the upcoming continental event is governed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and carries official status.

“While I can’t offer a formal guarantee, there is no risk of India and Pakistan not playing,” Ahmed told the Pakistan Observer. “This isn’t like a private league where India chose not to play Pakistan. The Asia Cup is an official tournament.”

India last faced Pakistan in the group stage of the 2025 International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy in Dubai. India secured a convincing six-wicket win.
