Prithvi Shaw Set for Maharashtra Debut

Prithvi Shaw

CricDiary: Prithvi Shaw is all set to play for Maharashtra for the first time when the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament kicks off in Chennai from 18 August to 9 September. It’ll add a fresh chapter to his domestic career. Shaw’s switchover from Mumbai in July followed a rocky period. He was left out of Mumbai’s 2024–25 Ranji Trophy squad over concerns about fitness and discipline. A no-objection certificate later, Shaw’s now ready to don Maharashtra colours in the prestigious domestic tournament.

The 17-member Maharashtra squad will be led by Ankit Bawne. Ruturaj Gaikwad also returns to the squad after being sidelined because of an elbow injury in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Gaikwad’s only outing since then was for India A in a warm-up match before the England Test series. Both Gaikwad and wicketkeeper Saurabh Nawale, however, are expected to leave after Maharashtra’s opener to join West Zone for the Duleep Trophy semi-finals starting September 4 in Bengaluru.

Mumbai, meanwhile, will be led by Ayush Mhatre. The 18-year-old already had a great season. He captained the India Under-19 team in England. Mhatre smashed 340 runs in four innings in the U-19 Tests and emerged as the top scorer.

Sarfaraz Khan and his younger brother Musheer Khan also returned to the Mumbai squad.
