Shreyas Iyer Appointed Captain

Shreyas Iyer

CricDiary: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), today, named Shreyas Iyer as captain of the India A squad for the four-day games against Australia A. The right-handed batter’s appointment comes shortly after he was left out of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, even after having a superb Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, scoring over 600 runs at a strike rate of 175. Iyer led Punjab Kings to their first final in 11 years.

This leadership role for Iyer is being seen as a positive step toward his potential return to Test cricket. He hasn’t featured in the Test team since early 2024 and selectors may now consider this series a platform for his re-entry, provided he plays well.
