Tamim Iqbal to Contest BCB Polls
CricDiary: Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal is all set to contest in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections scheduled for October. Iqbal has stated that he wants to be a BCB director, following which, he’ll decide whether to run for the president’s post.
BCB is expected to announce its election commission soon and a decision is expected in the next board meeting.
According to the BCB constitution, the 25-member board is formed with 12 directors elected by 76 councilors from Dhaka-based clubs, 10 directors elected by representatives from eight divisions and 64 districts, one director elected under the ‘other representatives’ quota and two directors nominated by the National Sports Council. These directors, once elected, choose the BCB president.

“None can say beforehand that he will become the president,” Tamim told the media today. “The main question is whether I’ll participate in the election. Yes, I will. I have a very good chance to contest for the director’s post. If the presidency was a direct election, I could comment on it now. But in the BCB, first you become a director and then the directors elect the president. If I find enough support later, I may consider it.”
